WATERFRONT IN YEAKTERINBURG IS ONE OF THE BEST PUBLIC SPACE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS IN RUSSIA

Waterfront area along Gorkogo Street in Yekaterinburg, which was landscaped in line with the project of ARCHINFORM Architectural Bureau, has been recognized one of the 30 best projects in the field of land improvement for public spaces in the cities of Russia. It was the decision of an international committee for the 'Project Russia' Magazine competition.
There were all in all 100 entries in the competition, and experts examined each project and allotted the marks. 'Waterfront areas always pose a difficulty: one has to connect different levels, the city and water, incorporate dikes and other hydrotechnical facilities. In this case, a parking as well. The project looks very good, it fits well into the context. I visited Yekaterinburg, and this project matches this city very well. There is some honesty and straightforwardness in this triangular geometry. However, it's obvious that the client cut corners on the materials', — says Jerry van Eyck, landscape architect and industrial designer, one of the competition committee members, about the project of our bureau.
'Our project is a unique idea of transforming an ill-judged city-planning solution of the developer, which led to the appearance of an underground parking in the waterfront area. We have attempted to turn this unfortunate neighbourhood into a new attractive and modern element of urban environment. The project connects two levels of the waterfront, providing comfortable movement for pedestrians and cyclists. New public space is arranged along the riverbed, with additional functions incorporated into the modern landmorphic architectural and landscaping solution', says Timur Abdullaev, the founder of ARCHINFORM.
Apart from the ARCHINFORM project, top 30 projects include, among others, Skolkovo gardens design, 'Krasnodar' stadium park, an urban farm etc.
